Hello - I was very interested to read about your school in this week's Guardian, and the way you include children in much of your planning. As an ex-parent governor I was also interested to see that the governors did not feel ready to include children on the interview panel. I feel it would make sense to include them, as you have done in other areas of the school. When I was interviewing for a teaching assistant/EAL post I felt the person we appointed seemed a bit cold, but wondered if it was just at interview. My daughter happened to tell me about this member of staff, as she was supervising HW club at lunchtimes, and my daughter said she never smiled and made her nervous - so my instincts had been proved right, although she fitted the bill for the job in other - less important - ways! I'm sure all schools would benefit from your approach of genuinely working in partnership with the children, not just as a token gesture. I am currently studying the philosophy of Carl Rogers' 'person-centred' ideas, and the article made me think of that - and the way you are empowering your pupils. Well done!

What a fab website! We are wanting to create one for Highbury Partnership, so might get in touch to find out how you did it.
